Note to self...

ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS CAREFULLY sort through Davin's laundry before throwing it in the wash. This afternoon when I went to switch Dav's laundry to the dryer I had a terrible surprise. Unbeknownst to me, he had put a clean (at least I'm 90% sure it was clean) diaper in his laundry hamper and it went through the wash...awful!!! There were tiny little gel like sticky pieces ALLLLL OOOOOVVVVEEERRRR!! Blah! I hope to have my washer back in clean working order soon, wish me luck....

Halloween + some extra gems

Hello folks. Welcome to the blog that used to be about us and interesting things that happened but has now turned into another baby blog...and proud of it! Last Saturday we took Dav to the annual Livestock Heritage Festival here in Cedar City. What is the Livestock Heritage Festival you may ask? Oh you know, a whole weekend full of livestocky type of stuff. They have dutch oven contests, tractor pulls, draft horse pulls, quilt shows, antique car shows, cowboy poetry (yeehaw!!), and the one and only....drumroll.....SHEEP PARADE!!! (Not gonna lie, we skipped out on everything but the parade, although the cowboy poetry was tempting...) So in this parade they have all sorts of stuff such as, horses, old wagons, antique cars, giant sheep semis, local family owned livestock businesses, etc etc...and literally, they have sheep! That's right, every year at the end of the parade 1000 or so sheep are driven down main street Cedar City...that's right, MAIN STREET! I guess its the easiest way to get the sheep from their summer pastures up the mountain to their winter lodgings in the valley, I don't know. If you know Cedar, you know that if anything interesting is happening, well then, let's make a parade out of it!!

Here is Dav waiting for the parade to start.
SHEEP!! (told ya!) The announcer lady told us that nowhere else in the U.S. is there a sheep parade like in Cedar! We are awesome!
First ever sucker. YUM!
Ok, now we can get down to business with this Halloween stuff. Our little Dav was a cute Giraffe! When we first put the costume on him he wasn't so sure. But when he looked at himself in the mirror he smiled and laughed. It was cute. Little stinker never smiles for pictures. I swear he is NOT a solemn kid. He laughs and smiles all the time!

We went over to our friends the Bishoffs on Halloween night. Here is Davin the giraffe and Kiley the duck. Kiley was actually kind of scared of Davin and started crying shortly after this picture was taken. Hehe.
"Whoa! A duck!" "Is that a...giraffe???"
They went to about 3 houses, and had no clue what was going on.
We carved pumpkins and just had a grand ol' time while the kiddos played. We're glad that we still have some awesome friends here in Cedar.
Here is Kiley trying to share her milk with Davin. Thanks Ki!

Davin pooped out on his bedroom floor after a long long day!

One Year Old

Davin had his one year old checkup and shots today. The poor little man SCREAMED during his shots and for some reason it was worse than all his other shots for me. Maybe it was because when he was younger I was used to him screaming? Or perhaps because he was a quiet crier so he didn't scream super loud with his shots. I don't know, but man I was trying to hold back tears too...it sucked! In all honesty he cried for less than 5 minutes, was just fine after that and was zonked by the time we got home. Here are Dav's stats...

Weight: 22 lb. 14 oz. 50%
Height: 31 in. 83%
Head Circumference: 49 cm. 97%
Yup, he's still got a giant head! (even a bigger percent than last time...) :)

Here are a few things about our one year old little boy
  • Davin can walk and does so for a little bit every day but mostly still chooses to crawl.
  • He still LOVES balls and will chase them all over the house. In fact I think that's partly why he still crawls so much, just so he can chase after his balls and push them around.
  • He also loves playing with his blocks. I love to watch the concentration on his face while he stacks them. The funny thing is that he rarely knocks them down on purpose. He's a builder, not a destroyer.
  • He loves to go outside and will smile and laugh when we go out the door.
  • He is doing much better with strangers. Even though he might act solemn and stare you down he won't generally get scared or cry.
  • Davin has a few "tricks" but will usually only do them for me or Taylor, he's a stinker like that. He can wave bye bye and even says "buh buh" , blow kisses, give high fives, and we're working on having him hold up one finger when asked how old he is.
  • He has started to jabber and makes the silliest sounds sometimes, I love it! The other day in the car he giggled and said "gobble, gobble" in his sleep, at least it sounded like gobble gobble.
  • He's started scooting around on his belly when he's in his jammies.
  • He got one of those pillow pet things for his birthday and he loves it! He hugs it, gives it kisses, and throws himself on top of it to cuddle with it.
  • He still takes 2 naps a day (hallelujah!!) and is so f
unny at bed time. He used to have kind of a hard time getting to sleep and would cry for a few minutes, but now he basically will reach for his crib and will sometimes smile really big when we lay him down and give him his blankie.
  • Unfortunately he goes through stages where he will wake up really early in the morning, between 6 and 6:30...sigh....
  • He has 7 teeth. 4 on the top middle, and 3 on the bottom with another one ready to pop through any minute to make it the 4 middle.
  • I don't even know what else to say, he is just perfect! (except for when he's not)
I love watching Dav learn new things! The littlest things see
m to be the biggest accomplishment, and at this age it seems like he learns something new everyday! Oh we love our sweet boy.

Birthday Fun (picture craziness)

Davin's birthday was Wednesday the 19th. That's right, we officially have a one year old! Whoa! We waited to have his party on Saturday so that our families could be there. We couldn't have asked for a more beautiful day in October for an outdoor party. Here is the story of his party in pictures...

"lovin" his birthday hat with aunt holly
Opening presents! Thanks everyone for the awesome gifts. He really didn't have any idea what was going on...
And now begins the picture craziness... Here is his basketball cake.
Acting shy but smiling while everyone sings happy birthday.
Wondering why a whole bunch of adult are sitting around staring at him. He hasn't really noticed the cake at this point.
Testing the frosting
Hehe, black lips!
Starting to get in to it

THIS IS THE BEST THING EVER, MOM!
You mean I'm not supposed to stick my feet in it?

He had a great time!
Awful parents washing our child in freezing cold water. He didn't even flinch.
Grandma and Grandpa
Playing at the park with Grandma.
It was such a fun party and we are so grateful for all our friends and family who came and supported Dav! We love our little one year old and can't wait for the next year of his life to watch the new things that he will learn.
ps- In the fall we are moving to....OREGON!! Wahooooooo!!!

Cousins!

I am so happy that Davin have cousins close to his age! Hopefully they will grow up to be great friends and have many chances to make all sorts of mischief together (hopefully at Grandma's house...)

They cooperated pretty well...
The Blanco boys did NOT cooperate...

Slow Down, Buster

I need to blog more simply because it's easier than writing and therefore the only place I'm really recording Davin's milestones. (terrible mother, aren't I) So before he grows up too fast, here's davin's latest update on his growing upness...

Words he says (or tries to say)

  • Ball
  • Bottle
  • Book
  • Dog
  • Duck
  • Mama
  • Dada
  • Down (Right this very minute he is playing a game where he stands up and then falls on his bum and says "dow" or sometimes it sounds more like "daw")
  • Giraffe (I swear he really says this! It usually sounds like "baffe" or "gaffe")

Cute stuff

  • He's lately started making the "muah" kissing noise and will imitate me when I give him kisses
  • He actually has just started imitating us all the time, mostly with noises we make(including bodily function noises, if you know what I mean. If he hears them he will make the same noise with his mouth.) hehe
  • He still loves books. One of his favorites right now is a farm animal book. So far he moos, baas, and woofs.
  • The other day Taylor discovered Davin in his room on his old baby swing, sitting backwards and just swinging away.

  • When he likes his food (and sometimes even when I just set him in his highchair) he will start saying “mmm mmm”
  • He makes this funny little face by opening his mouth as wide as possible while still covering his teeth.
  • He still loves to chase balls and will roll his body over them and then put his head on the ground with his bum in the air to look at the ball.
  • Sometimes he just sticks his bum in the air and puts his head on the ground for no apparent reason.
  • He drinks out of a straw, which for some reason was very exciting…
  • He likes to dive headfirst off the couch and bed. (I think this means he trusts us enough to know we’ll catch him, or at least that we’ll try) This is me catching him at the last second while still snapping the picture.

Milestones

· He has seven teeth (and they are sharp)

· He walks very well when we stand him up and hold out our arms, but doesn’t choose to walk when he could just crawl

· He has finally started waving! (But only when he feels like it)

· He had his first haircut. His hair is so blonde and thin you couldn’t tell how long it was.

After reading this over it doesn’t do him justice at all! He is the most adorable baby in the world! Just trust me.
